    How to play

It is for ages 5 to 7, with a make 5 and a make 20 board too.

    1. This make ten game has three modes: Make 5, Make 10 or Make 20. Pick one.
    2. Look at the cards. In Make 5 and Make 10, each card also shows dots, so you can count if you want.
    3. Tap one card, then tap a second card so that the two numbers add up to the target. Try 3 and 7 for 10.
    4. Right pair: the cards glow and fly to the Made tray, which shows the sum, like 3 + 7 = 10.
    5. Not a pair? The cards wobble and the game tells you the sum, like โ€œ3 + 5 = 8. We need 10.โ€ After two tries it shows you a pair.
    6. Match all six pairs to clear the board. A round is two boards.

Stuck? Hint glows two cards that make the target. You still tap them yourself.

    Questions about Make Ten Match

What is a make ten game?

A make ten game asks children to find two numbers that add up to 10, like 6 and 4. In Make Ten Match you tap two cards that make 10, with Make 5 and Make 20 boards for easier or harder practice. Knowing the pairs that make 10 makes adding across ten easier later.

What are the pairs that make 10?

The pairs that add up to 10 are 1 and 9, 2 and 8, 3 and 7, 4 and 6, and 5 and 5. Including 0 and 10, those are all the pairs. Each number has exactly one partner.

    Why is making 10 important?

Ten is the base of our number system, so knowing its pairs helps children add and subtract larger numbers. To work out 8 + 5, a child can think โ€œ8 needs 2 to make 10, so take 2 from 5, which leaves 3, and 10 + 3 is 13.โ€ Teachers often call this the make-ten strategy.

What age is Make Ten Match for?

Make 10 suits ages 5 to 7. Make 5 is a gentler start for ages 4 to 5, and Make 20 stretches children aged 6 to 7 who know their bonds to 10.

    Is there a timer?

No. Children can take as long as they like. A wrong pair does not cost anything. The game shows the sum and what number is needed, and after two tries it highlights a pair.
